PRESS RELEASE

Released: 2000-09-11

Exploration Drilling Offshore West Greenland Completed

As operator of the Fylla licence 03/97 offshore West Greenland, Statoil has now completed drilling of the exploration well 6354/4-1 (Qulleq-1). The well was drilled from the drillship West Navion, approximately 140 km west of Nuuk, the capital of Greenland (see Fig. 5.3).

The well was spudded on 10 July 2000 at the position:

63°48'48.03'' N, 54° 27' 06.61'' W
(WGS84 datum, UTM zone 21, central meridian 57° W: 7 078 718 N; 625 442 W)

where the water depth is 1152 m.

The well has demonstrated the presence of sandstone units of assumed Early Cretaceous age, and the well was terminated at a total depth of 2937 metres below sea level in a mudstone/sandstone succession of assumed Early Cretaceous age. No hydrocarbon discovery was made and the well will be plugged and abandoned when the logging programme has been completed.

The exploration well in the Fylla licence has gathered a lot of significant new data which will be analysed in detail in the coming months in preparation for the forthcoming licensing round in 2001.

The Fylla licence group comprises:

Den norske stats oljeselskab a.s (Statoil)

38,25 %

Phillips Petroleum Greenland A/S
